THE 5 BEST BOOKS TO CELEBRATE THE FATHER FIGURES IN YOUR LIFE

THE 5 BEST BOOKS TO CELEBRATE THE FATHER FIGURES IN YOUR LIFE

Father’s Day might be over but that doesn’t mean we’re done finished celebrating our dads and all the father figures in our lives. Whether you are looking for a black children’s book filled with affirmations, superheroes or magic bean soup, we have every family dynamic covered.

FOR ANIMAL LOVERS CHECK OUT, MY DAD IS A GRIZZLY BEAR.

This book from new duo Swapna Haddow and award-winning illustrator, Dapo Adeola  depicts all of the things we find annoying about our dad’s. This story follows a young boy with a wild imagination. His dad is a snoring, loud, messy-eater who growls and stomps around the house just like a grizzly bear with scratchy fur. Despite all of these things, he wouldn’t swap his dad for anybody else in the world as he gives the best bear hugs. A wonderful black children’s book for reading time with dad. A brilliantly funny and clever book all about having a wild imagination.

THE ADVENTURES OF WRONG MAN AND POWER GIRL!

Is your dad a superhero? The Adventures of Wrong Man and Power Girl is the book for you. A black children’s book featuring a superhero dad and daughter duo. Whenever Power Girl is called to the rescue, Wrong Man is always there to make it worse. Power Girl embodies girl power and coolness but her embarrassing dad, Wrong Man manages to embarrass her.

In this black children’s comic book, in an attempt to help his city, Wrong Man makes everything worse by accidentally melting stinky cheese all over the city, letting sharks loose, and turning one big meteor into many tiny ones! But all Wrong Man wants to do is help — and try to help he does, until he finally gets it right. He may be laden with mishaps, but Wrong Man is also full of heart. And in this action-packed book, readers can celebrate love and imagination as they laugh at the ridiculousness of dad!

An inclusive and celebratory book filled with affirmations and encouragement, I Am Perfectly Designed is great!

From Netflix’s Queer Eye, Karamo Brown has written his first children’s book with his son, Jason “Rachel” Brown. Our favourite member of the Fab Five has created a book filled with positive affirmations with Jonathan, Tan, Bobby and Antonio all making an appearance in the book too! A black children’s book celebrating the relationship between father and son, a beautiful story about loving who you are, exactly as you are. A heartwarming book inspired by the relationship between the father and son. Instilling self love from an early age will make it easier for your child to walk with their head held high once they’re older.

From our hairytales series in collaboration with Tangle Teezer, Jackson and the Hairstalk tells the classic tale of Jack and the Beanstalk. However, in this tale Jackson seels the family cow for some tasty soup and is very surpised by the hair raising results! Not only does this book celebrate Jackson and his magical locks but it also celebrates his relationship with his father who is a widower.

Wanting to honour that special grandfather of yours? Max and the Tag-Along Moon is a heartwarming tale all about cherising your loved ones. When Max has to say goodbye to his Grandad, he waits and waits for the moon to shine and guide him on his way home. A beautiful and sentimental story which gently teaches your child about loss but also about all of the love those who are no longer with us leave behind. An important book to remind us all that we aren’t alone, irrespective of who you are spending Father’s Day with.

THE RING BEARER

The Ring Bearer is a beautiful black children’s book for stepfamilies. A sweet story about a blended African-American family and the responsibility one little boy feels to be the perfect ring bearer at his mama’s wedding. This tells a heartwarming and relatable story about how Jackson, a young boy feels about welcoming his new stepfather, Bill into the family. A black children’s book that celebrates new families and facing our fears with illustrations filled with warmth.
